The technology utilizes a fourth color pixel, yellow, in addition to the standard RGB color pixels, which increases the range of displayable colors, and which may mimic more closely the way the brain processes color information
Sharp Aquos LCD TVs with RGBY technology
Sharp has unveiled its new range of UltraBrilliant Edge-lit Aquos LED TVs at CES 2010.
These LCD TVs, with LED backlighting, range between 32-inch and 60-inch models and they incorporate a new colour technology (RGBY) that adds yellow to the conventional red, green and blue of an RGB pixel framework. Sharp claims that this will enable the reproduction of colours that, until now, haven’t been displayed accurately on conventional TV screens – giving a total of up to one trillion colours.
UK consumers will get the Sharp Aquos LC-LE920E and LC-LE820, which will be available in 40-inch, 46-inch and 60-inch versions. The LC-LE720E will be slightly smaller, ranging between 32-inches and 46-inches.
All the new screens are full HD 1080p resolution, and the flagship Aquos model features 200Hz technology.
Sharp also claims that its Edge White LED technology and X-Gen LCD panel combine to offer a dramatic reduction in energy consumption when compared with conventional fluorescent backlit LCD TVs.
